Baalbec, Rhodes, and Heliopolis, which had the sun for tutelary deity, were so called. It is also the name of a treatise on the Ideal Republic by the Dominican friar Campanella (1568-1639), similar to the Republic of Plato, Utopia of Sir Thomas More, and Atlantis of Bacon.
