In 1041 the Church attempted to limit private war, and decreed that there should be no hostilities between Lent and Advent or from the Thursday to the next Monday at the time of great festivals. This Truce of Cod was confirmed by the Lateran Council in 1 179, and was agreed to by England, France, Italy, and other countries; but little attention was ever paid to it. Truck System, The.
