The house, at the north- west corner of Covent Garden, was on the site later occupied by the National Sporting Club. In its heyday Evans's was a supper room with entertainment provided solely by male artists. Women were not admitted except on giving their names and addresses, and even then were forced to enjoy the privilege of watching from behind a screen.
